An island hidden away from the rest of humanity, built to protect a
Freak from the rest of humanity.. and the rest of humanity from the freak.
The island is run by
Katie, one of the original freaks and one of the oldest.
Below is a nested list of currently known locations in this island.
Locations that have not yet been researched are indicated by an asterix.
- The island is a tropical island with large sandy beaches and some rocky beaches on the perimeter. The island is physically diverse, but tends to feature more plant life that is acclimatized to colder temperatures due to the cold nature of the island.
- On the surface, the air temperature on the island tends to be cold, ranging from -10 to 21 degrees Celsius throughout the year with few outliers. In The Underground, however, temperatures are more consistently warmer, ranging from 18 to 32 degrees.
- The sky is always tinted with a peculiar, magical blue mist due to the partial visibility of the Magical Barrier.
CloudNine - The main town of
TheIslandOfFreaks peaceful, inhabited by a
Freak population, having a reputation for being harmonious place to be. Newbies are always placed here.
* #CloudNineSquare - The first area accessible from the #SouthGate, having a chocolate fountain, benches and a small garden. Most Freaks who go outside tend to hang out here.
* #SouthGate - Although the walls provide no actual security because of the myriad of ways Freaks can bypass it with their abilities, it serves as more of a statement of safety than any practical function.
* #HotelNine - A safe space for people down on their luck, also doubling as a place where the hotel is responsible for finding different ways someone can make themselves useful.

CuddleClub - A place for meeting like-minded people with events organized by contributors and 1-on-1 rooms.
* #GuidanceHall - School known for its unique top-down approach to teaching.
* #CommunityBuffet - A public buffet known for its system for being free for people who contribute to it directly, such as donating, cooking, serving or cleaning at the place.
* #ProtectorateHQ - The main base of operations of the #Protectorate, the main force of order that both keeps peace but is also responsible for compiling reports and studies to survey what is the overall situation.
* #TheatreOfLove - Outdoor area for performances, events and and speeches.
* #NaughtyCorner - A specific corner behind the #CommunityBuffet out of sight where misbehaving Freaks are put on time-out, a place that the majority of
CloudNine residents are disproportionately afraid of despite it being just an unassuming corner that people would have to go out of their way to go behind the building and see.
* #SillyDesigns - The shop that takes on the challenge of catering for clothing for all the Freaks with their range of shapes and sizes, having to make clothes on a person-by-person basis by measuring them and then making them. The residents often donate random things to the store which is run by
Runa and assisted by
Darlington.
TheUnderground - A sector in the far corner of the island where excommunicated freaks live, also known as #BanishedFreak.
* #FirstLayer - Desire for peace and a feeling of lethargy is common throughout the first layer of
TheUnderground. The #BanishedFreak here tend to be friendly and even kind at times. However, there is a sense of helplessness and disempowerment throughout this layer.
* #SleepyTown - A disorderly but peaceful town, attracting people who feel like life is too complicated. The inhabitants reject hyper-optimization and work, instead preferring a simple, peaceful life. Problems are often ignored and left to fester.
* #FunZone - A place for meeting like-minded people known to be attractive to people who feel bogged down by oppressive rules that they can't follow.
* #ManaPool - A pool club where people relax in a pool that is pure liquid magic, which soothes the senses. People often go here to forget about life, forget about troubles and soothe each other.

* #SecondLayer - Well organized and practical, freedom is valued in extreme regard in this layer of
TheUnderground. The #BanishedFreak here tend to be loyal, unwilling to let problems fester and refuse to be subjugated. However this also brings a very confrontational norm, and it is more likely for fights to break out over disagreements.

FreedomZone - A small, surprisingly affluent town that completely rejects the concept of demanding money for work, mobbing or kicking out anyone who demands for compensation.
* #JungleJoy - A fun club with hospital facilities in-built. People party hard and recklessly dabble in extreme pleasure magic. Near death experiences are treated whimsically and newbie are often peer pressured into "facing their fears head on", because secretly, they too are afraid that their recklessness might actually cause their demise.
* #GigaGym - A gym that doubles a school with lectures focused on self improvement. Freaks often enter a cycle where they sign up, attempt to perform on an extremely high standard, and then stop going for months. The "gym teachers" often give advice that is useful but not applicable to everyone, which sometimes misleads people into thinking that they're just never going to improve.
* #LosardCamp - A camp known for providing for the poor and stopping abuse from happening. It is full of clones of the exact same freak, #Losard, who has the ability to clone himself once every day. However, something is not as it seems, especially as the clones seem to have contradictory behavior..
* #ThirdLayer - Chaotic and dissonant, power rules in the third layer of
TheUnderground. The #BanishedFreak here all tend to have a history of insiduous harm, manipulation and a complete refusal to change for the better.
* #RoyalHeaven - A rich, extravagant town that seems like it has every luxury imaginable, priding itself on being far more luxurious than the
CloudNine that they were banished from. Newbies who are banished here are often fooled into thinking that this is even better than their previous living situation until they realize the extreme subjugation that happens under the royal family. Everyone here is pit against each other as the royal family devised a system where people can climb on top of each other in order to get rewarded with a better living situation. The propaganda is extremely effective on its people, and the royal family openly plans to one day become strong enough to overthrow
Katie.
* #SillyClub - A club that advertises itself as a club for being silly, making fun of the absurdity of things, bonding over shared frustrations and loudly proclaim their opinions. When dissenting opinions clash, "silly fight tournaments" are hosted in order to determine who is the winner. Despite all the branding, upon closure inspection, there is nothing silly or whimsical about the club and most bonds subsist purely over the anger towards an opposing team rather than anything positive. However, it is always framed as positive and silly, making people either question whether they are going insane and eventually leave, while making others comply with the group's "if you get angry you lose" groupthink because they don't want to seem like the angry loser.
* #TempleOfTruth - A cult that masquerades itself as a religion, attracting freaks who feel like they're freaks even among freaks. The priests preach truth and seem to welcome discussion, but discussion is promptly met with hostility. There is only one truth. On closer inspection, this is a cult hosted by two unknown freaks who keep changing their identity in order to avoid detection, and their express intention is vengeance for being banished, reframed as being told "the harsh truths".
* #BeautyFactory - A highly efficient factory producing beauty products and providing almost every service imaginable, advertising itself as caring and fair. However, in practice, it is known for being a monopoly, charging exorbitant prices and crushing any competition when people get so sick of it that they attempt to create their own fairer business.
* #FinalLayer - The most dangerous layer, designed like a high security prison, for the most dangerous criminal freaks whose escape could mean catastrophe.
The Island Of Freaks has primarily the following types of natural systems:
- Boreal forest
The plant life mainly consists of mainly pines, spruces and larches. The soil is not very rich and is not as good for planting potted plants as moister soil in warmer areas. The area has some patches of podzol, which is especially poor for cultivation because of its sandy, nutrient-less upper layer. The ground is often dry and is good for running, unlike other forests where the ground can be slippery with moss or full of things to trip on. During most of the year, the area has a vibrant green appearance, but during the coldest parts of winters, the trees can get covered by snow, turning the whole place into what looks like a tundra with a white mist, but with highly adapted trees.
Due to the lively feel of these forest, there are some vacation homes built in these areas where some enjoy visiting when going on a retreat to relax and meditate. Sometimes, these large Residential Retreat houses are used by clubs, such as the Freak Protectorate, Survivalist Enthusiasts and the Cuddle club.
The wildlife tends to be rather normal and harmless, except for the presence of a few abnormal animals whose presence raises many questions and concerns.
Forest fires are a natural part of the life cycle of boreal forests, with several species of the trees dropping cones that only spread their spores directly after a forest fire. However, due to the limited, closed nature of the island and low trade, forest fires are a big problem because wood is a precious resource. This is the reason that several lightning rods can be found scattered around the denser forests.
These forests tend to be very flat.
- Deciduous forest
Large stretches of lands with trees and grass, hills and mountains. These forests tend to have some flat areas and several slopes and hills.
The trees tend to be thin and their leaves do not occupy much space, leaving a lot of natural light able to shine on the ground.
Soil from these areas are a lot more fertile, and more beautiful trees and flowers grow here.
Every fall, the trees lose their leaves.
There are several paths here built through these forests.
- Tundra
Despite the small size of the island, there are some areas which are anomalously cold all year round (-10 to 12), and because of this, not much can be found here other than large stretches of snow, frozen water, and some extremely resilient vegetation - mostly mosses, liverworts, low shrubs, lichens and a few beautiful flowers.
There is often a degree of permafrost, where it is impossible for vegetation to grow.
These areas are hard to survive in without some form of heating and a proper sense of direction. This makes it one of the favourites for the Survival Enthusiasts freak club.
- Steppes
Large stretches of flat land with some steep rocky structures and no trees. These are the favourite locations for roads because they are so easily to build a road in. In addition, several Freaks who enjoy travelling as a hobby can often be found roaming in steppes with their vehicles, with Binary and Sir White being examples of this.
Mostly tends to be temperate steppes. There tends to be large amount of black soil in these areas, which is soil with large amounts of humus (chernozem typed soil).
The higher one goes up the steep rocky structures, the more extreme temperatures tends to become, ranging from -20 degrees in the winter to 35 degrees in the summer.
- Volcano
There is only one natural volcano on the island - with emphasis on natural.
The natural, hot volcano is very wide and can easily be mistaken for a hill. However, it is a shield volcano. It has never erupted to this date, but if it were to erupt, the lava would be slow-moving and the eruption would be effusive - most of the danger would come from the fumes. The Freak Protectorate is particularly interested in taming the volcano, and are coming up with potential countermeasures to contain lava and find out methods to deal with potential fumes that can cause a volcanic winter.
The temperature tends to range between 20 to 35 degrees Celsius in temperature, even several kilometers away from the volcano itself.
The area tends to be rocky with dark gray basalt and other types of igneous rocks.
Even though the volcano is considered to be dormant, there are still no civilizations or villages within the volcano\u0027s known effective radius due to fear.
